Carmen Lee to Receive Two Awards
Carmen Lee is an accomplished young woman and tremendous resource to the Scouting movement in Bedford. Presently Carmen is an Event Coordinator and the Secretary in the Venturer Scout program and Scouter-in-Training Leader with our Beaver Scout Colony ‘A’. Previously Carmen has been a Patrol Leader in our Scout Troop and a Quartermaster who maintained, cleaned and repaired gear and camping equipment for the entire 1st Bedford Group. She has helped train other Scouts on how to safely use lanterns, stoves, saws, axes, hatchets as well as providing younger youth with instruction on campfires and fire safety. At two jamborees, Carmen helped organize youth into Camp Master groups that (independent of adult participation) looked after camp duties such as cooking, washing dishes, obtaining drinking water and waste management. She has modeled leadership and volunteerism at fundraising events. Carmen has organized and helped run projects in events as diverse as Cub Fun Day, Operation Alert and the Frosty Winter Camp. Carmen’s other accomplishments include St. John Ambulance First Aid Certification, Grade 8 Piano from The Royal Conservatory of Music, Paddle Canada Level ‘C’ certification, Canadian Red Cross Level 12 swimming certification, being a delegate to 2 High School Model United Nations and having made 3 hand made canoe paddles. This spring Carmen will receive The Medal of the Maple for Distinguished Youth Service, a Scouts Canada award that honours youth who have significantly contributed to the Movement and the spirit of Scouting through community service, extraordinary Scouting participation and a solid system of personal values. For her volunteer contributions to the Bedford community she will receive an award from the Bedford Volunteer Recognition Committee. Please join us in thanking Carmen for all she does for us!
