Remebrance Day at School

Dear Parents,

This week, many schools will be holding Remembrance Day activities.  Remembrance Day is an important occasion in scouting because it recognizes the women and men who have given service to their country and community.  Scouting was developed to encourage and train youth to recognize their role in their community and teach them leadership and citizenship skills.

Beavers, cubs, scouts, venturers and leaders are all encouraged to wear their uniforms to their school's activities.  Sometimes youths may feel "embarassed" that they will be the only one in uniform and will stand out.  But this year, with such strong membership numbers throughout the 1st Bedford Group I believe in most cases there will be four, five, six or more beavers, cubs, scouts, guides, brownies, etc. in a class.

We encourage you to have your daughter or son wear their uniform to their school's activiites.  Today, please call other parents with cubs/beavers/scouts/guides in your child's grade and encorage them as well.  "I know Ethan is going to wear his uniform . . .:  Rather than be embarassed, your child should be proud of their involvement in scouting.  I know as Akela I am proud to be involved in the leadership of youth of our community.

The youth should wear their full dress uniform (perhaps they can also take a change of shirts for play later).

Thank you for your involvement in scouting and the positive development of youth of our community.
